Discuss
Every page has a talk page, where members can discuss the page content and possible changes. Click on the Discussion link at the top of each page to get to it. You can start discussions about a page or join in existing discussions. Type four tildes (~~~~); the wiki software will convert these to your username and the current time. Or, click on the "Your signature with timestamp" button at the top of the edit box (the second button from the right) when you've finished adding your comments.
If your comments aren't page-specific, or if the page has been locked, you can discuss the wiki in the WHT forum.
Check
If you see any problems, you can fix them, take part in discussions about them, or report them.
- Check New Pages and Recent Changes to see if new and revised content is accurate according your knowledge and within WHTwiki policies.
- Watch for any content or policy problems as you read and take part as usual.
Write
For writing guidelines, see Writing and Style guide.
- Add content to existing pages. To see which pages have little or no content, view the Shortpages list. Some pages are just placeholder pages, waiting for someone to add content.
- Add content to pages marked as stubs.
- Start a new page. For ideas on what to write about, see Topics for WHTwiki and the list of categories so far.
Edit
WHTwiki needs editors to edit pages for style accuracy, readability, and content. Editing provides an overview of editing WHTwiki pages, and Style guide lists specifics to look for and correct.
Editors are also needed to respond to intentional advertising and vandalism. If you see content changes that clearly aren't within WHTwiki policies, you can undo the changes. Click on History at the top of the page to compare versions, and if the newer version doesn't belong, click on Undo to return the page to its previous version.
Mark
If you see stubs that aren't marked as stubs, mark them as stubs. Doing this helps other people find them and add to them.
Nominate
Nominate articles for Article of the Week.
Link
Add links to orphan pages and from dead-end pages.
When you see other opportunities to add links between related pages, add links between them. Some of the content may not have existed when the pages were first created. We depend on members finding new connections between pages and adding links when they see those connections.
Redirect
When you see a page title with content that people might search for with a different title, add a redirect from the new title to the existing page.
Report
The best way to let us know about problems is via the helpdesk. Select the wiki department for tickets about WHTwiki. For page-specific problems, you can click on the "Report this Page" link in the toolbox at the right, and a helpdesk ticket will open with the page link already in it.
