Shell hosting
Shell hosting is a form of application-specific hosting in which users can create and run programs on a remote Unix/Linux server.
SSH is the most common way to connect to a shell although many hosts may also provide an alternative service, such as telnet. Shell servers usually also run FTP servers, and many shell hosting plans also come with web hosting.
Associations
Shell hosting is commonly associated with IRC and is often used to run various IRC-related software.
