A 1 rack unit server

A rack unit is a measurement of space in a server rack, generally about 1.75 inches in height. Full server racks are usually 42 rack units in height.

There are different sizes of Racks, based on the performance of the server you want. The size of a rack equipment is designated in units where 1U is equal to 1.75 inches in height. Equipment usually comes in 1U, 2U, 3U, 4U, 6U, 8U, and 12U. Some manufacturers can create enclosures for their equipment in just about any size.
