Payflow Pro

Payflow Pro, also known as PayPal Payflow Gateway, is a commercial payment gateway from PayPal.

Payflow Pro allows merchants to accept credit and debit cards, PayPal and echecks*, directly on their website by linking to their existing merchant account through Payflow Pro; without the need to redirect the user to a 3rd party payment gateway portal (such as PayPal's Website Payments Standard).

While similar to PayPal's Website Payments Pro, Payflow Pro requires the merchant to have an existing merchant account; Payments Pro acts as both a gateway and a merchant account with the company requiring only a bank account to receive funds.

Unlike other PayPal payment processing solutions, Payflow Pro does not have a variable fee for each transaction. Instead, the pricing is fixed regardless of how many transactions are processed; though a setup fee and a monthly fee do apply.

Payflow Pro does not require the customer to have an PayPal account; however, depending on the merchant's country, the customer may use a PayPal account to pay through the gateway.

As the gateway handles the sensitive financial information, the merchant has no need to store the information; however the merchant's website must be compliant with the solution's requirements, such as having an SSL-certificate installed.

PayPal also has another Payflow solution named Payflow Link; similar to Pro, with few exceptions, including the requirement that the payments must be made through the PayPal website instead of on the merchant's on line store.
