Mail exchange
Mail Exchange, commonly known as MX are used to deliver emails to users of your domain name. When you send an email, your email typically goes from your email client or Webmail to an SMTP server which in turns checks for the MX record of the domain name in the email address. For example, if you email 'john@smith.com' whose MX points to mail.smith.com, the SMTP server will locate the MX record for the domain name smith.com and send it to the mail server responsible for handling emails for that domain name. Thus MX records provide the ability to map a domain name to one or multiple email servers.
