Help:Converting tutorials to wiki articles
The WebHostingTalk forum tutorial sections were closed to new threads after WHTwiki was launched because WHTwiki is more suited for tutorial-type content. We invite members who posted tutorials in the WebHostingTalk forum or at other sites to add their tutorials to WHTwiki. Here's our guide to converting tutorials to wiki articles.

Before deciding to add your tutorial to WHTwiki
Have the legal right to use it
Below the edit box when creating or editing a page, this message appears:
You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource (see Project:Copyrights for details). DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION!
If you don't hold the copyright to the material or have permission to use it, we can't publish it.
Decide if the topic is right for WHTwiki
See Topics for WHTwiki for topic guidelines. If the topic is something that would be discussed in the WebHostingTalk forum or is related to the web hosting industry, the topic is probably suitable for WHTwiki. If you aren't sure, you can ask in the Other WHT/iNET Announcements, Feedback, and Questions forum or via the helpdesk.
Know how wikis work
There is no time limit on when you can edit wiki articles, and all WHT members with accounts in good standing can take part. This means that you can add to, update, and correct content that you contribute to WHTwiki at any time. You can also edit articles that other members started, and other members can contribute to pages that you started. The talk (discussion) page for each article provides a place for members to discuss differences of opinion about what article content should be.
See Wiki writing overview for more on how wikis work.
After deciding to add your tutorial to WHTwiki
Search for current articles on the topic
See Search Help for how to search WHTwiki. If a page already exists on the same topic as your tutorial, compare the articles to see how similar they are.
- If your tutorial and the existing article are about a different aspect of the same topic, start a new page for your article.
- If your tutorial and the existing page cover similar aspects of the same topic, add your content to the existing article.
Edit your tutorial to make it a wiki article
Wiki articles can have different writing styles but should follow these principles:
- The title should be focused and contain wording that people would enter in the search box when searching for the article topic.
- Headings should be used to divide the article into sections.
- No "I" should be in the article. Other people should be able to add to it.
Steps to apply these principles:
- Read and follow the Page titles guidelines on Writing.
- Read and follow the Writing style guidelines on Writing.
- Remove any first person ("I") references from the article; keep only facts in it.
