TotalNic / PacNames

I notice that TotalNic have been taken over by PacNames - a brand new interface (still can't unlock domains though, even though I've filled in all of the forms, signed by a JP etc etc)

I've also got a new domain in my account (that wan't mine previously)! So, if you had domains with TotalNic, check you still have them!

Hi All

I also requested a release 2 days ago - but no response yet.

there is some slightly (to say the least) disconcerting info here:

unicyclist . com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=15319&perpage=15&pagenumber=4
(sorry I cant post urls yet)

I think that given the well publicised problems surrounding totalnic some comment from pacnames about their position would be in order.

But I'm not holding my breath.

there's still no whois up for totalnic domains either

Angry

If you ask me, this TotalNic/Pacnames thing is slightly dodgy. Looking at totalnic.net.au brings a Capital Networks branded site, but with the PacNames look, only in blue. Have PacNames taken over all of Capital Networks or just the US (gTLD) side of it?

I'd also like to point out that I cannot find PacNames in ICANNs list of accredited registrars.

I have probably about 90 domain names with TotalNic (now PacNames) and all of these domain names have been modified without my knowledge to a different Admin, Tech and Billing contact. I cannot register as a contact on the website and having spoken to them on the phone they told me they would resolve this as a matter of urgency. Over 24 hours later, I've heard nothing. Checking the WHOIS at different times during the day reveals the admin contact changing to a different person almost every time. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Some of these domain names need renewing, but I don't want to renew them because they admin contact will get an email. If they know what they're doing they could probably get into PacNames system and effecticly steal these domain names.

same here, no answer to my e-mails. That's 5 days after I sent a support e-mail.

I just wonder if it's the same bunch of guys just trying a rebranding exercise to get rid of the bad name (due to transfer issues)?

And yes to the contact details changing.... although the e-mail address stays the same, the other bits change.

Hi

I've also been emailing for several days now without any reply.

RobLePom asks: is it the same guys?

well the sitepoint thread says the company holding the domain name is domiciled in NZ but that there is no company of that name (Pac Domains Ltd) registered in NZ. And they are still using the old totalnic US phone number.

if a new company has taken over they should (would have) come up front straight off and say this is who we are. we know there have been problems and this is what we are going to do about it. please stick with us.

But to hear nothing is worrying.

when they get round to replying to my request to take the lock off I fully expect to receive a mail requiring a notarized form to be snail mailed somewhere obscure to get a transfer out of there.

ad nauseam

what is icann gonna do about this?

ICANN will do nothing. They're uselss and don't care and long as the registrars pay theyr $15,000 dollars or whatever it is to become accredited. Even though PacNames are not accredited.

Do not expect icann to come to the rescue. They have allowed totalnic to prosper for years

* Response received!

Well, what a pleasant surprise. Following the problems I've had with the TotalNic/PacNames cross over, I've got this response:

Quote:
The names have been renewed for a one-year period each. We will not charge you for these renewals as a thank you for your patience.

There was a problem encountered during the transition with names listing addresses in the United Kingdom (related to the IANA change of GB/UK). This caused problems with the Whois results and with access to the United Kingdom accounts. Please note that the domain names in impacted accounts were locked in our system during this time so that no updates could be completed to the names online. The problem has been resolved and your names will now be accessible through the account at PacNames. Our sincere apologies for any confusion or inconvenience caused.
A sign of good things to come? We've asked them to unlock all domain names. We'll see, I guess.
