Moderately priced dedicated server
Hello. I am in the market for a dedicated server within the $130 range, but I don't really know what sort of specs I should be expecting for that. What would be reasonable for me to look for?
The server won't need any special care as it will only host a few websites and maybe an IRC server, so I figure most of the cost can be hardware related.
Any reputable host suggestions are always appreciated as well. I looked at VersaWeb but I couldn't find many reviews.

I think that one thing is server configuration and another one is content you are going to host. I think that for $130 per month you will be able to get good low end dedicated server config. But I assume that would be a problem to negotiate with provider to install there IRC. Specific request.

You may be able to get an Intel Xeon 3430 for that budget with around 2 GB - 4 GB RAM, 1 hard drive, and +2,000 GB bandwidth. But everything depend son the data center.
Do you require any control panel such as cPanel? What about location, US?

You can browse the dedicated servers forum here on WebHostingTalk to find some good offers. There'd be a number of providers available at that price range.
Try look at HiVelocity, they don't allow IRC though.

Your budget is very good, I don't think you will get a low end specs for that budget.
Just take a look at the offers section, you will come out with something good from there.

In your $130 budget, are you looking for a fully managed server, semi-managed server, or unmanaged server? This will help determine what you can get.

Do you have a certain geographic region you would like to have your server?

The key thing is to get dual disks in RAID 1. That way, the sites can keep operating if a disk fails.
And budget for offsite backups.
