Hello

I would like to know the best SATA II drives out there right now as we were having alot of suddenly dead drives lately.

Should we get

OR

OR ... ?

If you are looking for high reliability in servers, neither. WD make good disks but stick to enterprise-class drives if you want maximum stability.

I would highly reccomend WD RE's.

We also mainly use the WD Raid Edtion disks, we haven't had many fallouts so far!

if they are to be used in hardware array, then choose wisely with 500-Gig RE3 (WD5002ABYS; 16M buffer) or RE4 (WD5003ABYX; 64M buffer) RAID edition drives.

if standalone or non-RAID situation, WD5001AALS black is indeed more reliable and performs better than WD5000AAKS blue.

We run RE4's ... I wouldn't want to run a consumer grade drive in a server.
