iweb smart servers

Hi
iweb has launched their smart servers
http://iweb.com/dedicated/smart-servers/

Has anyone tried it ? Need reviews about them.

But their prices are different on following pages.
http://iweb.com/dedicated/smart-servers/how-to-choose/

http://iweb.com/dedicated/smart-servers/supersmart/

Compare pricing on both the pages.

Just had a chance to work on this thing (managing server for a client).

It's a Xen PV on dedicated hardware, WHM is WHM VPS Optimised.

It's a VPS per say, though they claim it's on a dedicated hardware.

Without anything, just configuring cPanel, load is 3.07 (4 cpus) Q8400 with 8Gb of RAM

HDD read response is a bit slow.

Will report after I have properly gone through it.

So its not a "true" dedicated server? I was wondering how they can offer that type of hardware and bandwidth for that price.

http://iweb.com/dedicated/smart-servers/

They are cloud based servers
Multi Per Server 100% Uptime cheeper ram etc,
They will run around 24gb ram per server and give you a share of space across nodes.
Worth it if you quite cheep for this based service.

If for configuring cpanel only will take more than 3 CPU load in 8GB RAM, I wouldn't say it's worth to try.
Better I go with "just" dedicated server or vps with HA/cluster/cloud or whatever it is.
"Dedicated" means more not less or just same as others

I have a configured cPanel on a smart server, and I do not see server load being around 3. So in all fairness, I have to make a counter claim here.

I think they have physical dedicated server on cloud interface, somehting like bare metal servers.

Did anybody look at those 2 pages and pricing
Same company, same website, Same servers, same configuration but different prices. I mean what the hell is this ?

I think iweb is good reputed company, so such mistakes are not expected from them.

Wrong. The is no sharing at all with Smart Servers. They are true physical dedicated servers. A single Virtual Machine runs on the server in order to provide the server cloud-like features. The virtual machine uses all available resources.

What 2 pages are you talking about? The Smart Server page and the Super Smart page? Super Smart is a 20$/month option that doubles traffic allocation to 20TB and also upgrades the LAN to full GIG. So the prices on the Smart Server page include the additional 20$. We will try modify the table so it is easier to understand.

Some clarifications that will be posted on our site shortly in order to avoid confusion...

What is a Smart Server?
A Smart Server is a new kind of dedicated server that offers both the power of a Classic Dedicated Server and the flexibility of Cloud computing.

Is a Smart Server a VPS or not?
A Smart Server is a VPS on steroids. It offers the best of both the VPS and Dedicated Server worlds : The Power of Dedicated Servers with the Flexibility of VPS and Cloud Computing. While a “VPS” or "Virtual Private Server" is usually about a virtual machine, sharing resources with other virtual machines on a physical dedicated server. A Smart Server can be considered a VPS because it is powered by virtualization technologies, but it is more of a Dedicated Server because there is only one Smart Server per physical dedicated server and your Smart Server uses 100% of the available physical dedicated server resources.

When I buy a Smart Server do I get my own physical piece of server hardware?
Yes. When you buy a Smart Server you get your own dedicated piece of hardware reserved for your exclusive usage. You are the only one using the physical server.

What Virtualization technology does Smart Server/Smart Layer uses?
Smart Layer, the technology that powers Smart Servers uses Xen.

Why does my Smart Server uses a Xen Kernel?
As explained in other questions, a Smart Server is a Dedicated Server running a Xen-Powered Virtual Machine that uses 100% of the available resources of the physical dedicated server. In order for the Smart Server to run smoothly it runs a Xen-Optimized Kernel.

Do not hesitate to post most feedback, we are actively listening to what you think about the product !

Regards,

Was it right after you got your server ? Because cPanel can take alot of load at first when it calculates quotas / backup and other first time config of cPanel. Check after a couple of days if the load decreases.

If this was noted shortly after the server was provisioned, it might be because the RAID was still in its sync/building phase (the process might not be completed when the server is delivered). Or as ImageNetworks said maybe quota/backups calculations of cPanel. You can verify the RAID status with "cat /proc/mdstat". If it is a permenant condition, I would suggest to report it to our support team so we can investigate as it is definitely not normal.

Regards,
