Need Host for Forum. Shared or VPS?
I have a forum hosted on Godaddy. The average number of visitors on the site is about 50 - 100, we've gone to maximum of 400 once. I've reached these numbers in 10 days and hopely it will increase.
However, it seemed that the number of mysql connections provided by Godaddy isn't enough because a lot of my users have been reporting to me that they can't go on the site and sometimes getting timeout..500 errors.
So yesterday, I bought a VPS account with 384 ram and moved there, but after like 9 users logged on, it stopped working. So I'm really wondering what service I should get and any hosting recommendation I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Generally if you hit MySQL connection limits, you'll get a MySQL error (and not an Internal Server 500 Error).
A VPS with 384 MB of ram is barely enough for a small static site once you take into account Apache, PHP, the OS, and everything else that needs to run to make it happen.
You may be able to get by on a mid to high level Shared plan depending on the provider as GoDaddy isn't exactly known for their CPU/Ram allotments on shared hosting but if VPS is what you definitely require, make sure you monetize your site or it can get expensive fast.
Good luck.

Generally it's all spelled out in the Terms of Service but as far as shared hosting goes - there is no provider that is "known" for it.
When it comes to RAM for a VPS, you'd just have to shop around.

Yes, we agree with MikeDVB as a "Internal Server 500 Error" is just that a server error. Usually associated with an internal server configuration issue, maybe caused be a poorly configured node or a DNS server issue. Could be any number of things..... As far as your own VPS you get what you pay for, and especially a managed one. What we cant figure out is, what did GoDaddy say when you addressed this issue with there support team?
Should you want to keep it simple and easy, just pickup some shared hosting that has full features and is a value added web host. We could easily fill your needs for allot less than a VPS thats for sure and allot more stable server for your needs for sure.
Hope this helps.

I would try to find an affordable managed VPS provider. 384MB of ram is indeed quite low - unless you're running lighttpd and mysql only (done it before).
Anything's possible, you've just got to do it right.
