SEO Optimising a Wordpress Powered Site with Plugins

Just wondered if I'm in the right school of thought when it comes to SEO optimising a Wordpress powered website.

Usually, I create full on websites with Wordpress for my clients rather than "blogs", though I do run a few affiliate sites selling products for particular niches in the "blog" style.

Upon a fresh install, I install All in One SEO Pack (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...-one-seo-pack/), Google XML Sitemaps (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...map-generator/), Google Analytics for WordPress (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...for-wordpress/) and finally StatPress (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/statpress/).

Can anyone suggest anything I should be putting in there also, or perhaps plugins im already installing though have reason to believe they're a waste of time?

Cheers!

Hmm, some interesting ones there to check out, thanks!

Any more from anyone else, or perhaps Platinum SEO pack is better than All in One SEO Pack?

Whats the difference between these two packages?

The SEO pack is very good if used right. Don't expect to plug it in and start getting ranked all by itself. Put some time into finding some how to's and tutorials for the plugin only and go from there.
Don't go crazy with your META keywords, Google doesn't use that meta anymore so only use what keywords you will have in your content for other robots to see.
Also in your sitemaps plugin add some more ping service URL's. There are lists all over the web for them.
Good luck with your SEO Journey

There are a lot of things you can do and many of them do not require plugins.
Your permalink structure is paramount, so are your 301 redirects and 404 pages. Internal cross linking is key.
Off site work is very important, and can easily be modified in a wordpress multi-site network.

I will post some articles soon on xInd.ca again, and you can see I'm smarter than your average bear (maybe not our WHT bear though, hehe) by checking out my 2 week test on xInd here: http://portfolio.xind.ca/2010/09/seo...p-experiments/

We build 90% of our websites on wordpress as lot more than just a blog or CMS.

Seems All in One SEO Pack is capitalizing on its popularity rather than outright increasing functionality.

I'll be sure to take a look at your article once posted.
Regarding 301 redirects, it further enforces the fact Platinum SEO Pack may well be a better choice.

Thanks everyone, keep them coming if you know of any more :-)
