So, I just got back from a week of time off where I only spent three days of it out of my own town, which is in stark contrast to my normal vacations. I have vacationed in New York, Northern Michigan, Amsterdam, California, Canada, Belgium, New Orleans, Amsterdam and Orleans (France). Every single spot has been amazing, and provided unique experience. I was equally happy to find new and different things to do around my own town as I was to find them on the other side of the pond.
Surprisingly to me, I can't seem to find any pattern between my favorite spots other than that: a unique experience.
So I'm curious: What are/would your favorite places to vacation, and why?

Sicily - I often find myself going to Sicily year after year. Flying in to Catania (East Coast) and staying in Letojanni and usually stay at the same Hotel - http://www.parkhotelsilemi.com/ - it's truly an amazing place to visit.
It's beautiful, it's friendly and there's much so see and do.

Should a vacation spot be frequented more than once?

My favorite spot in smack in the middle of Korea in the mountains. Just like the air there and easy to relax. Also like Japan a bit. Not very fond of my current vacation spot (been here long enough to probably stop calling it a vacation). Too friggin humid and all of southern china is a bit polluted IMO.
If by hellind's description has to be frequented more than once than those are the only ones I can apply. But for one-timers I liked Park City, Utah. Skiing there is fun, IMO.

I love San Francisco! It's a huge city with tons to do, with beautiful architecture, and beautiful landscaping. Can't beat it!

I've always wanted to go to Vienna. I forgot Florida in my list. Maldives was completely off my radar, but is definitely on it now.

Sicily would be awesome. I've got some italian in my lineage, so I've always had an urge to go see what it's like.

I haven't made it to anywhere in the east yet. It's definitely on the list, though.

That's a good question. I think it could, but I didn't necessarily mean to imply that you should. What do you think?

HAH! I totally hear you there. Taking any time off is a huge challenge for me. I'm absolutely no good at it, and have to force myself to not check my email and things.

Hi!
Seriously..here's a thought. I wouldn't mind taking a "vacation"/business trip. I'm thinking..Taiwan (Come back with Orchid cultures) or..uhh..Costa Rica (Come back with plant cuttings and coffee!).
It's a Win/Win!
>>>I don't know where Smithville, CA is..but..Strawbewwweees!

Been to Maui 5 or so times in the past 8 years, one of my favorite places to relax. Usually stay at the Westin Ocean Resort Villas in Kaanapali. Was neat because each visit the hotel had more phases completed in it's construction.
Other places I really enjoyed are Rome, Venice, Lucerne, and Paris.. really like Switzerland a lot, beautiful country.
