VPS Server preference's?

I might be looking into becoming my own VPS provider in the near future. I have moderate experience with VPS's but I don't know what software to use or what operation system. Can anyone spare some advice?

Here are some of the virtualization systems you might want to consider:

Xen
OpenVZ (doesn't support Windows)
Linux-Vserver
Paralles Viruozzo (includes control panel)
Microsoft Hyper-V

Control panels:
SolusVM
vAdmin (German)
Sysvm
Veportal
Hyper-VM

probably more out there.

Go with solusvm if you're going to sell vps'. Lots of providers are using it nowadays.

If you are looking for the best solution, go for SolusVM(IMO). For free, for with HyperVM

Get at least a dual core

Virtuozzo is too expensive, Hyper-VM has baggage and concerns...

SolusVM and vePortal are the most popular right now, and where the market is headed...and both are automated with WHMCS (most popular web hosting billing software these days...). Which you choose is personal preference, as each has a different look and feel completely, and each has some features the other does not.

i agree solusvm is the panel of the moment

as for config, well that's dependant on what you choose as a virtualisation platform
i.e xen or openvz
Xen is the favoured choice and allows windows too...
i would head towards a cpu with hyper threading minimum quad core
12GB ram and upwards
Minimum raid 1 hard disks raid 10 seems to be the norm

Thank you everyone. I'm thinking SolusVM is looking most promising.

I advise you to see the latest offerings from the company eurovps.com
More than 4 years working with their vps and I must say very good prices and excellent quality.

In particular, I advise you to start with the managed Linux VPS200 with Virtuozzo and Parallels Plesk 9.5 control panels.
