8 core AMD, 32GB ram, 4 x 1TB server for sale

I built this server for a client's project. They ended up canceling the project and now I don't need it. It would make an awesome virtualization server for anyone in the business.

The specs are:

1 x Opteron 6128 (8 x 2Ghz)
32GB DDR3 1333 Ram
SuperMicro H8SGL Motherboard
1 x 32GB A-Data 2.5" SSD
4 x 1TB Seagate 3.5" 7200.12 SATA Disks
SuperMicro 813MTQ-520CB 1U case (520W PSU)

I really have no need for something quite this huge, and I'd like to recover the costs involved in obtaining the system now that the client is no longer willing to lease it.

The parts breakdown with the original costs are as follows:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819105266 275.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813182240 249.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144397 179.99 x 4 = 719.96
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211419 89.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811152112 249.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817998052 29.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148433 69.99
http://www.directron.com/a3.html 23.99

Total (without shipping or taxes): 1919.86

I would be willing to let this system go for a flat $1500 USD, buyer pays real shipping anywhere in US48. I am NOT willing to ship this server anywhere outside the lower 48. I WILL entertain REASONABLE offers, but don't try to lowball me.

Wire transfer would be preferred, but Paypal or even credit card could be worked out with proper (and extensive) verification.

Please PM with any questions.

Thanks

Would you be willing to sell parts of it? I'm interested in the HDDs and RAM.

1) I don't have an exact number for the power usage, but I can find out this afternoon when I pull it out of the rack. I will get back to you with that, but I would estimate it at no more than 2 amps @ 120VAC. Also, as a perk (depending on where in Chicago it is) I might even be willing to deliver it for you for no shipping charge.

2) No, there's no raid controller in this machine. The client that I built it for did not need high performance disk I/O, so software raid was fine for them.

You could easily add one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816103102) or I would be willing to install a riser and that raid card for an additional $250 (to cover shipping, the riser, etc) if the buyer is willing to wait an extra 2 to 4 days for me to get the hardware and install it before shipping the server.

3) I am not willing to part it out.

It is currently racked at DuPont Fabros Technology in Elk Grove Village (outside Chicago) however I'm planning to pick it up this afternoon / evening.

It was built around the end of July. The parts were ordered on July 22nd, however I did get a DOA motherboard and had to get it replaced so I can't recall the exact date of when it was racked.

As I have gotten a couple of PMs asking about it, I will also mention this here:

I can also offer colocation of this server at its current location with a 1Gbps port (nLayer and Level 3), 5 usable IPs (more free with justification), and 2000 GB of bandwidth for $149 per month.

I can pay $1000 and I can pick it up. If you're interested, pm me. If not, don't worry about it

I don't think I'm willing to take that much of a loss on it. If you'd like to discuss, please feel free to PM me and we can talk. I'm certainly open to negotiation, but I'm not taking less than half of what I've got in it already.

Darn. That was my max offer. I understand your logic. My offer remains until I end up buying another server, just let me know. =D

OP, just a quick q,

That added together comes to 1709 thereabouts, was that meant to be with shipping and taxes or are you missing something?, I did notice on newegg that a few of those items are free ship too.

Apparently Excel lied to me then when I did an autosum of that column... my apologies. No idea how or why that happened, but you are correct. The actual pricing there is $1,709.89

As far as the shipping, that can change almost daily with NewEgg. Some days it's free, some days it's not. I do not honestly know what it was back in July when all of this stuff was ordered.

I have no idea what the shipping costs were, as I didn't really total it all up. If you *really* want exact numbers (including the return shipping and the overnight shipping I paid for the replacement motherboard that was DOA), then I can pull all of the invoices and total them up and post it.

Overall, IMHO the machine is well worth $1,500. I've seen servers with lower specs sell for that price (or more) on here in recent weeks.
