UK Hosting? Why dinky bandwidth limits?

Hello all

I am looking for a UK host for a few Google News Approved sites which do generate a nice amount of traffic. As a few of those are .co.uk targeting UK customers I would like to have them on UK hosts/IP's , however they all seem to be amazingly expensive for the bandwidth they offer. I am looking for bandwidth in the region of 1 to 3TB/month.

Can anybody suggest some good host at affordable prices?

Thanks

marco

Bandwidth in the uk is usually more expensive than in the US unfortunately.

Are you looking a dedicated server?

Uk2.net offer servers with 10TB or the VPS version at vps.net where you can increment the server requirements as needed.

I can vouch for VPS.NET, there VPS's are unmanaged but are really not that hard to setup! Though, the support side of things are not to best from recent times.

@aguk
@Sparrow-Sean

Thank you both for your suggestion however it seems there are quite a few negative reviews on uk2.net including here in the forums?
Also, in my search I have also found hostway-uk.com , does anybody have comments/experiences with them?

I can not comment for others but I had a dedicated server with uk2.net for 2 years without any issues.

No matter where you go, who you are, or where you are from, no host is going to be able to please everyone, from my experience with VPS.NET it has been more than amazing. It's really a matter to what type of experence you have had with them.

I cannot comment on your second option however.

Also what is your budget.

vps.net is a big company, you are bound to see some negative reveiws of them. With the size of the business a few bad reveiws does not nescersarily mean it's a bad company.

And since they have VPS as their domain name, they must be good! Right?

A host with realistic hosting plans is actually a good thing.

A name means physically nothing to the quality of service they provide

Are you talking about dedicated hosting or shared hosting?

Because of the proliferation of peering exchanges in the UK, the budget dedicated server provided tend to provide between 3-5TB of data transfer as standard with their servers, often for a price lower than most US providers. Look at Poundhost, Rapidswitch etc for this type of thing.

On the other hand, in the shared hosting market you will find that providers in the UK tend to be more "realistic" with their resource allocations. A site transferring 1TB+ per month is probably not suitable for most shared hosting arrangements, so if you want what is the equivalent of dedicated server bandwidth, you'll need to pay dedicated server prices.

You can find some good offers out there but generally Bandwidth is a bit more expensive out there.

Budget is not an issue, as long as we can find a good service, we just don't want to be overcharged and underserviced..
Yes, looking for VPS or dedicated, sorry I was not clear in my original post

Marco
