I kinda have the feeling that any VOLUNTEER service IS BETTER because the person IS DOING IT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO!
Doing something BECAUSE YOUR GETTING PAID sometimes results in lack of QUALITY in service as they may not really want to do it..
What are your guys opinions on it?

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with your opinion. First of all no one would really do something for free unless they really have too much dedication to the internet development or have too much time to do free jobs. Whereas paid services will ensue reputation and trust which in return will yield the person who does the service more business and of course, more money

Agreed. But it sometimes depends on the person and the reason they are volunteering.

I'm volunteer so I say yes we're better
The full timers say we're worse.

I also think it depends on the reason why the person is volunteering. If they're trying to get their community service hours over with, they're probably not too happy to be there and probably aren't very interested in putting forth the extra effort. If the person is volunteering because they have a passion for what they do and they enjoy it, then yes you probably will get better service, hands down.

My sister recently signed up for 1 year to volunteer with Americore. When she tells people this, they all assume she just got out of jail and is doing her community service, when in actuality she just graduated college and wants to help homeless people get their lives back on track.
i am so proud of her! but i think its hilarious that people assume she just got out of jail LOL

I've done volunteer work since for the last 19 years, never had been paid a dime. Love it, and put a lot of work into it. I only get back the satisfaction and i'm actually helping people in a positive way.

And that is entirely untrue by the way. I know quite a lot of people who volunteer out of the goodness of their hearts. Make sure you only speak for yourself, and not everyone else. You will just end up putting your foot in your mouth CogentHost.

Adding to that, it is the attitude of the person that matters most.

Well Said, I'm a volunteer fire fighter and the satisfaction of helping people in need is very rewarding.

^ Speaking of firefighters though...
Would you want a full time, professionally trained firefighter trying to save you or a Volunteer?
Would you rather have a volunteer doctor with less training or a professional doctor looking after you.
(I am not saying all volunteers are untrained, however most volunteers are not trained as well in some of the critical services compared to trained professionals)

Ya, I hear that a lot but the fact is volunteer fire fighters in my state are required to provide the same training as paid fire fighter (90 hours a year training). In fact in our state you have to have 3 years as a volunteer fire fighter before they will hire you.

Volunteers may get some of the same training, but for the most part, they will lack the experience and formal training. Most volunteer training, atleast where I am, is basic training.

This could be true in some states and I do believe it could even happen here in my state. As a volunteer fire fighter I had to complete fire 1 basic and fire 2 advance training, NIMS 100, 200 and 300, hazardous material training, cold water rescue, basic forestry, jaws of life, SCBA training and and basic EMT. This all had to done in the first 2 years or the fire department would have to let me go or the state would fine the department. Now we have medical first reponders on the department that had to have 2 years of schooling before they could even be licensed from the state to respond to calls.
But to get back to your point, yes I will agree most volunteer fire department do not have the work experience as a paid fire department.

I find volunteers to be high in motivation, but often low in relevant experience or training.
