[FS/FT] 4 months old $1400 Amadi Systems Supermicro server

I CONSIDER FOR SALE OR FOR TRADE...

I consider selling or trading my 4 months old, barelly used, absolutely mint condition, Supermicro server built by Curt of Amadi Systems, originally for $1400 + $18 shipping.

This server went straight from Amadi Systems to Continuum Data Centers and never left its rack there. Invoice indicates it shipped on 3/31/2010, in fact it was rather in early April. I've never touched or see the server, as I live in Quebec, Canada.

I bought it for a project (a custom web program for a marketing company) for which we quickly ended up renting several lower end servers, instead. As such, it has been barely used. I should have thought twice before purchasing it. August bandwidth graph indicates 41.17 GB traffic. As such equipment quickly devalue, I would prefer giving it a new home instead of using 0.001% of its capacities as I do right now.

Here are the specs as listed on the invoice:

1 Intel Xeon Quad-Core E5506 2.13GHz 4.8GT/s 1366pin 4MB CPU
3 Super Talent W13RB4G4 DDR3-1333 4GB/256x4 ECC/REG Server Memory
1 Seagate ST3500418AS 500GB SATA2 7200rpm 16MB Hard Drive
1 Supermicro X8DTL-iF Motherboard
1 Supermicro P0037P Heatsink
1 Supermicro 813MTQ-350CB Chassis

So: 12 GB memory (3 slots free), E5506 (1 socket free), IPMI KVM.

These parts were chosen to allow a great evolutivity: three RAM slots are still available for up to 24GB and one more CPU socket to double the fun. Add in a second E5506, perhaps few more memory sticks and a couple hard drives and you got a killing machine to host tons of VPSs.

You would be given full root access to the server and a visit to the datacenter (if Continuum allow this) before purchasing. And a copy of the invoice, if desired.

The only issue is that I still have 4 months left on my Continuum's contract, which is of 5 Mbps + additional 10 Mbps port (for IPMI KVM), $75 a month.

I'm looking either to sell it for money, trade it for a Mac Mini which I would consider colocating or even a trade for dedicated hosting (!).

I am interested in this.

When you mention or even a trade for dedicated hosting, would you be able to elaborate further on this?

Thanks

Hi there, canadian neighbor!

A trade for a dedicated hosting period (X months) would be my last resort if I don't receive any interesting $ offer.

Please let me know what price you have in mind!

IS the $1,400 figure your asking price or BIN, or is that just the price you purchased the server for?

$1400 is what I paid for.

Note that this was an excellent price (I actually slightly bargained it ;-0) as RackMountsEtc would sell the exact same server (beside a 520W PSU instead of 350W and a different brand hard drive (and RAM (?)), today, for $1501.

As such, and considering the condition of the server and its upgradability, I must say I expect to have a very small lost. You'll also avoid the 1-2 week(s) build time.

Let me know what you think!

As you suggested in your last thread, note that I would be pleased to let you fly away with the server for a 130% in 6 months - may also fund additional upgrades, from Curt, to suit your needs, before shipping it.

Let's further discuss this via PMs, if you're interested.
