You only need storage, no bandwidth? Do you need RAID for these drives?
U.S location is also fine?

Please post the providers. I'm especially interested in the last one.

I know a good provider can do 48TB + RAID6 for $849/mo ($17/TB). But, they are in the U.S.

Iam interessted in all <<recommendations>> which fit the
requirnment of $20/TB or less.
U.S was good, virtually every location will be okay.
Of course the machines should have a reasonable amount of RAM compared to the number of disks and some traffic should either be included or kind of cheap.
iam looking for one or more machines to store 50TB in a raid preferably a software raid
one machine was easier to handle but many small ones will probably include more RAM and traffic without addtional costs...
Please tell me more about the 48TB machine. if you dont want to link to the ISP publically send a message.
thanks in advance

People can't PM you, you should make a request in the relevant forum section. There are lots of providers here who may be interested in setting something up for you

WHT didn't allow the provider to PM you the offers.
The provider I was talking about is WebNX. They offer cheap backup servers and located in Los Angeles.
This is their latest offer on Jun 16th:
* Big backup / file server, 48TB space
Single cpu xeon x3440
4gb ram
24x 2TB drives with hardware raid 6
small boot / os drive
$ 849 5TB BW with free inbound traffic!
* Cheap backup server, 8TB space dual core, 2gb ram
2x cores at 1.66ghz (ATOM D510)
2gb ram +$10 for 4GB
4x 2TB hard drive
$149 5TB BW with free inbound traffic
I'm not sure if this server is still available, so contact them to ask about this. They can build any monster servers for you.

You are too new to receive them yet. Providers can't make offers, publicly or privately, and there is no section where you can post and receive offers. Only recommendations are allowed.

These are backup servers. Why do you need a lot of outbound traffic? 5TB out is a lots for backup server. Also, backup servers didn't require a lot of RAM.
Anyway, you can contact them to build a server that fits your needs. As I said, they can build any monster servers for you!

You should also consider colocating.
2TB drives amortized over two years will cost you something like $3 per TB per month - double that for RAID-1.
So if you're talking about enough storage, the monthly savings on disk space will outweigh the possible extra cost of colocating versus hiring a dedicated server. (especially if the servers do not have to be powered on and running all the time.)

Do you require hardware RAID? Or is zraid-2 or zraid-3 / zfs OK? How much bandwidth do you want?

Check the "build your own" section at Leaseweb, for example:
Supermicro SC846TQ € 453,00
1x Intel Quad Core Xeon L5410
8GB DDR2 € incl.
24x1,5TB SATA2 € incl.
10Mbps 95th percentile € 17,00
Monthly total € 470,00
+70 euro if you want 50 mbps 95 percentile. Adding ram to this is relatively cheap.
That's about 13 euro/16 dollars per TB, cheaper if you pay in 3/6 months intervals.
Might want to ask Tom from 100tb.com, in another thread he said they can accomodate people that need lots of storage at good price.
There's others too...
Somewhat of a joke but when you think about it, it's kind of cheap:
http://www.ovh.com/fr/produits/hg_2010_xxxl.xml
Dual Xeon E5530, 24 Go DDR3 ECC, 36x 2000 Go - SATA, 10gbps connection, 10 gbps incoming, 200mbps outgoing (guaranteed, SLA and so on)
597 euro per month, 5375 euro setup fee
Sounds a lot but if you commit to one year, for example, that would be 597 euro + 5375 / 12 = 1044 euro a month, or 1044 / 72 = 14.5 euro per TB
Though I'm not 100% OVH would accept orders from any country, yet maybe for this kind of server they would.
PS. Also check this one, if you're thinking about colocation, or maybe working with this company from the article: http://blog.backblaze.com/2009/09/01...cloud-storage/
They can do 67 TB with 7867 $ but they've used 45 x 1.5 TB drives prices 120$, now you can get Samsunt 1 TB drives for 60$, 1.5TB drives for 95$ and 2 TB drives for 110$
So you'd have 45x2TB for 4950, add 1000$ for case, mb and power supplies and you're at 6000$. But colocating it would cost your around 200-300$ a month, so you'd save a lot in time.
