Colocating in Irvine, CA

Hello all and thanks in advance for your contribution.

We are a start-up Game Server Provider, and will be building our own servers but need a good data center to place them in.

We are located in Irvine, Ca. So anywhere within the vicinity that we could easily commute to, would be great.

My second question is... Do you have any tips/how-to on choosing a DatCenter as a GSP? What should we look for? How do I spot a good network and a reliable DataCenter?
(I apologize if this has been asked before, I have searched thoroughly and found no useful information on this matter).

Thanks all!

Latisys Data Center is in Irvine - 17222 Von Karman Avenue Irvine, CA 92614
You might have better network quality / value at 1 Wilshire in Los Angeles

How to chose? Network quality, factors such as upstream peering with major eyeball networks (Dont get confused with overall peering, companies such as Cogent or HE suck for gaming) Look at www.fixedorbit.com for basic peering info.

Peering doesn't always mean the best route. While its great, lots of networks abuse their peering ports on IX's and its not uncommon to see a networks IX port max'd.

Private peering is a different story.

Look at comcast, if someone peers with comcast, their internal network is not always going to be the fastest, hence why it would be better to stay on L3's network than jumping off on comcasts closest peering exchange with L3.

All networks are not created equal.

Please keep all recommendations public (we've cleaned up a few), and not PM or ask for private contact. That would be against the rules.

As someone who also lives in Irvine, have you considered colocating in LA instead? You'd get overall better networks and facilities in my opinion.

I would highly recommend you go to LA for your colo. If its a issue of not having to drive far to fix you servers then look into Level3 I believe they have a facility in Tustin Ca..don't quote me on that one though.

I'm going to quote you hehe.

Anyways, yes we decided the drive to LA would be well worth the peace of mind and network potential there.
Now, the million dollar question is (drum roll)
Which DC is the one to choose?

Considering, we are a premier GSP.

You should totally check out Quadranet. I have a few servers with them. They have great routing. The DC staff is very helpful. You can quote me on that one.

If you don't like them then check out WebNX they are in the same building..

I would really recommend quadranet in los angeles for this. The price is right, the quality is good, and it's located right next to one wilshire, which has the most dense connections of providers in the area. Colo-ing in Irvine, that's not a major colo market, the pricing and quality won't be as competitive.
