I'm not sure what you are getting at?

The 2960 is not a L3 capable device. The same IOS release just works on those platforms, look at the feature set broken down by hardware platform.

from my brief skimming and from what #cisco on Freenode are saying, the new IOS version for the 2960 will do some basic layer 3 type stuff ie static routing

well, it does add static routes to SVI's but thats not a 'Layer3 Switch' is that a simple layer3 function? Yes. However, they still lack serious Layer3 functionality.

My title was a bit off. I should have put doing basic layer 3 I was tired
