Why can't webhosts provide decent support?

Please tell me why. I just moved to my third host and I still can't get anyone to reply to a support issue. It's a problem with their software not working properly- not because I don't know how to setup email or somthing simple like that. Can someone please explain why hosts can't provide decent support? I have no idea how you people stay in business-- actually I guess because you all are so awfull we don't have a choice. I'm just sick of it.

If you know of a good host that will provide timely support (I'm talking about a a few hours response time not 24 hours+) or who keeps everything running properly so I don't have to get support, let me know. Don't just blow smoke up my ass. If you can't provide timely support, then don't reply or contact me.

Thank you for your time.

Have you tried to get hosting from someone that isn't the cheapest?

Maybe you keep picking the scams that are out there.

Maybe some wiser shopping might fix the situation.

I won't make a suggestion, but will suggest a theory - people (and in many cases kids) think web hosting is an easy way to get rich quick. So they buy the cheapest server they can find, stuff as many sites on to it as they can, and provide no support as to further increase their profit. Find a host that has been in business for some time, and ask around here for opinions. You'll find a great host sooner or later (hopefully the former ).

my answer is pretty much exactly what SWR was thinking. There are plenty of hosts that offer good support, but support costs money because people don't work for free usually. If they don't have the cost structure that allows for support, you won't get it.

Although maybe they just happen to have a lower priority on support than they should.

Shucks. You said what I wanted to say, so all I could say is DITTO.

But as a sidenote, prior to signing up with a webhost, do some investigation first about the host and make sure you drop them a pre-sales inquiries email and gauge how long they would respond. This is not fool-proof but it sure helps guage if the company is serious about business or not.

As for investigation, since you are here, you could always do a 'search' on the potential host and look for comments or complains about them.

Actually... no.

You do have a choice. Infact, many choices... thousands of hosts exist, you've only been with 3.

Before you sign-up with any host, be smart and do your research.

Thanks for the replies. I actually did extensive searching at this site before I chose my current host and they weren't the cheapest. Everyone here said they were good for the most part. That's what lead me to believe that maybe they're all bad, and that's what has me so frustrated. I feel like I did carefull research and I even tried asking them a few questions before I signed up. If I didn't make money from my site, I would just give up.

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences with hosts on this board. It is hard to tell the good ones from the bad ones. Ask friends, family members who they use and if they are satisfied. That's how most new customers come to us.

What were the features you were looking for in a host ? Try posting them in the 'Web Hosting Request' forum and check with them if they do have those features.

The users could have lied?

maybe ask them for their typical and average response times. Any good host should be keeping track of these things for internal improvement.

What were the hosts? Give me the URLs and I could see if I can point out some good reasons i wouldn't trust them.

The host is gearhost. I just did a search and it came back with a bunch a threads. Several recommended them. Some were negative, but then the site's owner would come in and explain what actually happened. So I thought that atleast they respond to their customers...
