Day at the lake yesterday. 16 year old boy died jumping off rock.
So I went to the lake yesterday (Lake Keowee, South Carolina) with my family and a few friends. We went out on the pontoon boat to go swimming and the like. Overall it was a really good day, very warm 100degrees and over. However when we were coming back to load up and go home, there was about 6 cop boats around this rock (right across from the local dock we came in at). We didn't think nothing about it, and continued to the dock. Well when we got to the dock there was cops, diving team, paramedics and the like. We pulled up at the dock and a cop informed us that the dock was closed and that we would have to move the truck to another dock and get the boat out there.
Apparently a 16 year old boy had jumped off the rock around 4pm EST time. We got back to the dock around 7:40pm EST time and they were still looking for the kid. Rumors were that the kid had jumped off, and never came back up. The dive team believed that the kid got stuck on something in the water, and thats why he never came back up. He apparently floated down the river from the rock. The kid was with friends, and family members (cousins). The parents were not with him when this happened.
I've been looking at the newspaper today and checked the internet and still haven't fount anything about this. I'm not sure if they have fount the kid's body yet or not. Can you imagine being the parent of a kid that this happened too? Can you imagine getting that call saying that your kid has been declared dead?
I feel bad for the family of this kid, and will continue to keep them in my prayers.
Edit: Here is the story (Thanks to Mike - Limestone for finding it)

Right. I wondered if it was due to the way that the news or police try to protect minors' identities, but I don't know. Maybe you should call the newspaper tip line and let them know.
In any event, a tragic story. I wonder if they will determine what he apparently got caught on.

The reported incident date and time are exactly the same, but this news source is reporting the victim as a 50-year-old man (!). Any idea what's up? Does the news media not have the right description?

That is odd. It could be worth calling the news station and asking. Perhaps a reporter wrote in the wrong age (or assumed the wrong age), and it spread?

Eh, don't blame the poster! The news site simply updates the page's story over time rather than posting new additional stories about the same topic. Kinda unusual, eh?
