These are kinda cute. Why don't they have them as subdomains rather than folders I wonder? Better still why don't they set a cookie so the next time you visit the regular site your preferred one loads...
There's so much interesting stuff at Google I wish there was a resource that documented it all in one place.

just did litlle, hmm "research" on this.
Search results are different on every of those pages. It is interesting to notice the search reults for porn, on linux, microsoft and regular page. Regular page is, how we all expect it to be, loded with actual porn results. If you search for porn on linux page, it seems that first results include word FREE (GPL porn maybe). Microsot page has no porn at all??! Well, if there are any undecided out there this can help you select "right" OS.

Yup you're right. All the /os searches make anything related to the specific os more relevant. A great example go all 4
/bsd
/linux
/microsoft
/mac
And search for the term operating .

i think this is almost reason for poll.
Q: What is worth searching for:
A. Operating
B. Porn
The fact is, you will find the porn aniway, so it makes no much difference.
