Question

Low cost dedi with good bandwidth

Hi there,

I currently have a dedicated server at Leaseweb and I'm fully satisfied with it. What is important for me is the bandwidth quality. Now I am looking for an equivalent server at a comparable price in USA.

Here are the specs :
- Low end CPU with 512 Mb RAM
- 100 Mbps network connection
- 4000 GB bandwidth
- Debian 5
- Unmanaged

I am paying 41€ for it. So I am looking for an equivalent dedi at around 50$.

I have been searching for days and found nothing worth it. The only good deals I could find are in Europe. Anything interesting in the USA?

Your budget is extremely low for a dedicated server with 4,000 GB bandwidth and 100 Mbps port speed.

I think you best solution would be to stay with LeaseWeb, because it seems like they gave you a pretty good deal for a dedicated server with 4,000 GB bandwidth for that price.

But you may consider looking at Joe's Data Center, they seem to have pretty affordable servers and I have heard very good reviews from customers - http://joesdatacenter.com/

You do realize what you're asking for is roughly 15Mbit/s of bandwidth even if it's perfectly even, right? At $50/mo (feel free to correct me, Joe) not even Joe's mix will be able to accommodate you.

Even bulk providers have to pay at a minimum $1-2/Mbit/s; you're basically asking them to eat the cost of providing and supporting a server. No one will give you that.

Unless of course you'd like scam artists from Panama. Maybe you should try to get a $5/mo dedi.

Yea that is a hard target to hit. The problem is you can only assume if hes asking for it that hes going to use it and if he uses it he will be over cost. You might get lucky and find a special. I ran one a week ago where you could get the 100Mb unmetered upgrade for an extra $50 month but that was on top of the server and the cheapest server was $35. I have a hard time thinking anyone can touch this number that can actually deliver those speeds. The problem is going to be that somebody will say they can hit that price mark but he might not ever be able to actually transfer that much data. A lot of the guys doing 100Mbps unmetered share the 100Mb connection going to your machine. I actually provide 100Mb to the machine and the customer is capable of hitting that at any given time so for me this would be a loosing deal. I say good luck and keep searching and maybe he will get lucky. I don't think I can help though.

Yes, but just in case send them a ticket. Their technical support is pretty fast and they will be probably be able to give you an IP to ping or a file to download to test the network speed.

I think he just gave the traffic allowance that's standard at Leaseweb.

Extra traffic at Leaseweb is 10 Euros per TB (about $4 per mbps).

I know it is the price of the dedi for the price of the bandwidth, but such prices can be found easily in Europe. Maybe the bandwidth is cheaper in Europe I don't know...

Anyway thank you for these answers, I am still searching.

@BradQ: the server I currently have is hosted by Leaseweb in the Netherlands, which has a pretty good reputation. I could also find similar offers by other hosting companies in the Netherlands, in Germany or in France. But nothing comparable in the USA.
