shared hosting for WordPress 3 (multisites) with daily backup

It's some weeks I'm searching and I still have doubts.

I need 10gb webstorage, small bandwidth (30gb at least), no problems with wordpress 3 multisites (dns wildcards for example), Automatic Daily Backups .

What I need most is a reliable shared host (I'm used to lunarpages and dreamhost and never had problems, but always used coupons and their full price isn't that good as they don't offer daily backup).

I need many add on domains (100 at least) for wordpress minisites (most are about 2 to 10 text and small image pages with 100 visits each months).

Running 100+ sites (even small ones) in a single shared account is generally a bad idea and unless none of the sites get any sort of traffic and you use absolutely no plugins beyond wpsupercache you're going to end up suspended in a hurry with 99.9% of providers.

As a hosting provider, it raises a huge suspicion when websites need so many addon domains. To us, it seems like that you are using this as a reseller program, and yes as MikeDVB said, it will probably get your account suspended for Server Resource Abuse.

What Mike said, your resource usage will be too high.

Look for a VPS or dedicated server if you need use a lot of system resources. Space and bandwidth is not a problem.

Is there a reason why you need 100 domains all under the same account?

I keep another hosting for websites with traffic, in 3 years between dreamhost and lunarpages I never had my account suspended (just some domains temporary suspended because of comment spam, before I knew about akismet).

I'm the only one who manage it, why should I use more accounts?

Like said you can end up using a lot of resource usage, which would ultimately lead to suspension. I think you should go for a VPS or dedicated, which would give you more flexibility on resource usage.

I am sure he was trying to save money, you know, Unlimited Everything for $5.99/month.

You really, really need a dedicated server. Even a VPS is going to choke with that many WP installations, because every PHP page must be dynamically created w/ the database (unless you use WP-SuperCache, as mentioned).

People often don't realize that even a "small" WP installation is a resource hog (relatively speaking) because every page displayed in your browser requires execution of a script and database calls. That same page can be displayed much more lightly by just using plain HTML.

If you are serious about your info/IM business, use the right tool for the job when it comes to web hosting. Your web hosting is your lifeline. Use something you can count on. A VPS won't have sufficient CPU and RAM, and your sites will slow down or fail to load when you go over your allocation and the hostnode (main server/VPS software) has to virtually accommodate you. Virtual = resource intensive. You can never virtualize resources as efficiently as hard-wired. Just get the hardware and do it right, right from the start.

If you run a VPS or dedicated server, you must hire someone to administer it. MUST. This is not an option!! If you don't do this, your server will not get critical software upgrades, and huge holes will be left for your sites to be exploited, defaced and destroyed. If you use WP as extensively as you seem to claim, you surely understand how devastating this can be. We are talking about lost ad revenue, lost click-thru's, lost leads, possibly even lost SE positioning, for DAYS. Or WEEKS. And guess who's stuck cleaning up the mess??? YOU. It's a total pooper.

So get the dedicated server, and hire someone decent to administer it. If you hire the right person, they will be familiar with Wordpress and could even provide support for you with your WP questions & issues. It's a little much to ask them to do custom coding but there is no reason why they couldn't help you track down errors, answer questions about your themes & plug-ins & the way the script works, etc. Look for someone like that. They will be worth their weight in gold to you.

Just my 2¢ worth.

Bailey

(running many WP sites myself )

On a side-note, if you are on LunarPages and DreamHost and they aren't suspending you, why leave them? Sounds like they are doing just fine.

This also tells me that you aren't doing anywhere near 30GB/month in traffic. What are your actual resource needs? Not your pie-in-the-sky wishes. We all wish for 30GB traffic, even with 100 2-pg sites. It simply doesn't happen for 99.95% of people. So what is your current actual usage?

Bailey

@bithost(NET): vps or dedicated are too expensive for me right now.

Lunarpages and Dreamhost are ok, but afer first coupon for me they are not that cheap to not care about lack of automatic backup. (and I don't want to buy for another 3 years as I think wordpress 3 will be able to merge my sites and backup in 2013 should be normal).

This month my storage is 4gb and my bandwidth usage is 7gb. (i do use wp supercache on each site).

Find a provider offering unlimited+unlimited with unlimited and run 100 sites on that one account... I do wish you the best of luck. Maybe hostgator?

Hostgator has not automatic backup.

I never asked for unlimited space, unlimited bandwidth or unlimited speed, just many add on domains and backups. Ok I'm sure that cpu is the problem and dedicated is the solution, but I'm looking for something low budget for the next months/year.

Maybe the big "unlimited" companies have tricks to slow down cpu usage peaks of wordpress in their shared hosting?

I would not host 100 addon domains on the same shared account, however, if you get only 10.000 visits in all them per month, the resources usage is should be reasonable for a shared account.
About automatic backups, you can generate your owns automatically every night running a cronjob or search for a host offering R1soft or similar.

You are better off, backing up the sites yourself.

Even if a host does not offer daily "control panel" backups doesn't mean you can't have it. There are scripts floating around the Internet where you could install the script and a cron job at the host to backup your data exactly how you want, and automatically store it how you want (for example, upload it to an offsite FTP backup). Nifty!

However for all of those sites, while many hosts offer unlimited domains in packages you need to be careful of the TOS/AUP that you are within the limitations. You would be much better getting a reseller account and setting up 100+ separate cPanel accounts so your resources are not counted as one.
