    SuperMicro 's IPMI

We use X8DTL-iF supermicro MB with IPMI installed

We logged in and go to remote control ->Console Redirection( Launch the
    redirection console via Java viewers)

We do have JAVA 6 installed on local PC, but loosk like console could not come
    up in IE browser ever

Do we need to setup anything extra to let IPMI work?

Downgrade your Java version to 1.6.19 and disable automatic updates. Java broke some functionality in the most recent upgrade that the console requires.

We went through this same problem about 2 weeks ago.

I have just confirmed that we are using 1.6.19. Please make sure that you don't have another version still installed.

We are using Chrome, but we did have this problem across all browsers (FF, IE, Chrome) and the downgrade is the correct solution.

    Peter,

Make sure you are using the latest firmware for IPMI interface. When I contacted SM support about the issue they confirmed that my version of firmware did not have the problem, so there is apparently some version of the firmware that this was actually a problem, at least that is the inference.

Also, check to see if the Serial Over LAN console works (at least starts Java and opens a window). That will help you understand if Java is working properly. We noticed that the SOL worked fine, when the console redirection did not (even using JRE 1.6.20).

Make sure you don't have java on your machine set with temp files disabled. This made the supermicro remote console app not work on my boxes here.

Try the IPMIView, this is a Java application that can run on different OS. And you can store profiles for each server.

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but I had a fresh desktop install and tried to get this working and spent some time going through every version trying to get this to work.

It turns out that JNLP functionality (the part that actually launches the KVM Over IP console) isn't installed for any version of JRE after 6.0.12. I went through every version available for download (from 6.0.21 to 6.0.12 installing and uninstalling each along the way) and only 6.0.12 made the "Launch Console" button actually work in FireFox. I still can't get it to work in Chrome, but I will take FF at this point.

I am not sure if you can install .12 and then upgrade to .19 and retain the functionality. I am testing that now.
