I was fan of findmyhosting.com when it was free. I surely have given 2nd position to FMH... if it was free. I think that it is sold now and they are no more free !!!

There are many good ways of advertising rather than just websites. Get paid ad's, SEO and much more.
I'm sure there are many posts on this forum regarding some of the stuff I have mentioned.

I just recently ran across Buy Sell Ads And they seem to have a great strategy. Don't go for PPC at this time, you will be throwing your money away.

You can also try to be creative, to create your own Video Advertising and put them on YouTube
Social Network websites (facebook, twitter, etc. ) also great places to advertise.

I would recommend WebMaster forums like DigitalPoint and Netbuilders as I often see threads with people trying to find new hosts.... The only downside is that they are often trying to get really cheap hosting.
Also, I've heard that it is really effective to advertise in your local area... you should give that a try
Edit: You could also create a deal with a webdesigner where you pay him to refer some of his clients to your site.... this is a really good method as the clients will most likely run small sites but won't mind paying a bit more than seasoned webmasters...

You will find many webhosting forums if you google for it. But I specifically like hostingdiscussion.com and Webhostingtalk.com the mostly.

WHT is definitely the established forum leader in the web hosting industry market.
I've always wondered, though, whether WHT's audience is primarily comprised of people who are involved in the web hosting business or if it's people who are simply potential web hosting customers looking for a good place to host their sites. Registered members, and especially those who participate, seem highly skewed towards being involved in the industry. This might mean that WHT would be incredibly well targeted for dedicated server, colocation, VPS & reseller type hosting advertisements but not necessarily for end-user type hosting ads that target people who just want a website and are not in the hosting biz themselves. I believe WHT has another website that better targets that market, but I do not recall the name.
