Messed network configs, need to reinstall OS?
Hi everyone,
It seems like I messed up a network config file (ifcfg-eth0).
I can't connect to the server at all: do I need to reinstall the OS or is there any way to revert the changes made to that file?

You dont need to reinstall the OS.
Hook up a KVM, login to your server and edit the file

If your server is managed, your provider may even be willing to fix the network file for you

Even if it's not managed, i'm sure your provider will console in and correct the interface(s) pretty quickly (and should be without charge!) for you.

Most hosts, even unmanaged, would be willing to assist with network stack issues, and should be able to fix this problem without re-installing the OS.

Some hosts have KVM/ip things to accomplish this like Softlayer, IMPI
If you don't I'm sure all managed and most unmanaged hosts would set ya right...

Even an unmanaged host should be able to fix it quite easily for you without re-installing.
In some cases you can fix it yourself if you have KVM access or your provider (typically European ones) have an interface where you can reboot into a rescue system.
