Google to Stop Selling Smartphone Online

Quote:
Google Inc is closing its 4-month-old online cell phone store, abandoning an ambitious plan to redefine wireless retailing.

I think Google fare poorly in the sales of Nexus One smartphones. May be better for them to work with retailers than operating through an online store.

With Apple iPhone 4G coming up soon, Nexus One will be in even worse shape.

For what it's worth, the Nexus One was really only launched for the betterment of the Android platform itself, I don't think it was ever meant to be a #1 device or anything along those lines.

Other phones such as HTC EVO 4G are truly going to see much greater adoption. It has a similar 'base' as compared to the N1, but added features such as WiMax, larger screen, HDMI, 8MP camera bring it to the 'top.'

The business model of selling online is a flop. Nexus One is not a flop.

I guess you can sell apps through an online store but not the phone itself.

Google should focus on its search engine and products innovation and leave the selling of phones to others.

I completely agree, I myself have a Nexus One and I can say, it's far from being a flop. Although, carriers are just not ready to be cut out.

The output was slowed down after launch of i-pad from Apple and i think this is why Google pushed back their Nexus..
