vpshive become gigenetcloud

vpshive, gigenet's cloud division changed its name to gigenetcloud
Their website have been redesigned and their packages no longer include bandwidth (seems les VPSy and more CLOUDy, hence the name change)
i searched in the site to find the prices but didn't find an answer so i started a live chat and the operator answered one question and then ignored me

The site seems to be in beta stage since the demo page is not working, etc..
in all if you navigate it you can feel it is still missing information.

go check it yourself

That should help. 20’ per GB of outbound traffic

Hi Mad-J,

I am not sure what happened with the live chat, I will be glad to answer any questions you might have.

Currently, block pricing below 1TB is yet to be put up. 1TB is $70.00, we will have smaller blocks available. Also we might be changing the outbound to .13 or .14 cents and inbound to .05 or .06 cents. We are offering free Windows right now, and will have some specials coming up shortly.

if 1TB is $70 then 300gb would be around $20
isnt it a little expensive?
I would like to see 300gb for $10 if possible.

Ouch. Isn't the pricing for bandwidth a little high? I know this isn't a company that specializes in high bandwidth but $70 for 1TB in the US is pretty dang expensive.

Does seem quite high really, considering you can get a dedicated server from Gigenet for $99/mo with 2TB bandwidth...

Hello,

Please keep in mind for pay as you go bandwidth, incoming transfer is free. Also remember that the block bandwidth is for your entire resource pool. So, many machines can be sharing the same bandwidth block. Thus, blocks of bandwidth should be what you use per month and any extra can be picked up by the pay as you go billing method. Finally, the cloud machines are running on a 1Gbps port that is on a 10Gpbs transparent backbone. This is premium dedicated transfer that is protected by Intrusion Detection and Prevention Services. Where the dedicated network is on a 100Mbps (1Gbps with a paid upgrade) port with an open network and a 10Gbps backbone.

With the pool bandwidth take for example 3 dedicated servers with 2TB of transfer per machine. If one machine uses 30GB/mo and another machine uses 4TB. The account would be billed for 2TB of overages. Even though the account holder has 6TB of bandwidth total. The cloud allows all the bandwidth to be pooled among all machines.

We will also be introducing per machine bandwidth blocks that will cost less than the per pool blocks.

If you have special large bandwidth requirements make sure and contact sales we are happy to work with you.

Hopefully this helps clear up any questions.

The problem with us is that we have low bandwidth requirements. The price seems excessive compared to the dedicated already at Gigenet.

It would be perfect if we could buy a bandwidth block that doesn't expire, but they currently seem to last a month only. This just penalises the low bandwidth users. They buy the lowest and don't use it all. Whereas people who use lots of bandwidth will buy bigger blocks anyway and they'll use them up.

If you have low bandwidth usage the pay as you go should be more affordable then any other competitor in the market.

i use around 200gb outbound monthly, on the pay as you go plan it should cost around $50
which is still very high, even higher than the 250GB block

That is kind of expensive.. I haven't looked at your carriers but that's some premium pricing. For example: RackSpace Cloud = $.22/GB when bought in normal client volume.

However, it's also true that 'Cloud Server' hosting is very expensive. You get what you pay for and if it's on good hardware, the infrastructure is solid, and the SLA is held up. Then $0.20/GB is a bargain. It looks like a very nice offering.

Also considering RackSpace Cloud charges inbound. Therefore, the pricing does show a much larger ROI with Gigenet's offering.

The biggest issue for me with vpshive/gigenetcloud is the bandwidth pricing.

The network is amazing, the hardware performance is amazing, and the actual "cloud" setup and features are amazing. It's great that incoming bandwidth is free, that bandwidth can be shared among VM's, and that you are charged only for what you use. But, I don't like that it costs .20/GB. Sure, I can buy it in bulk... but then that defeats some of the cloud/utility billing. Maybe if we were able to buy in blocks and let is rollover month-to-month ???

I'd prefer to see a lower price (well, who wouldn't). Maybe some sort of sliding scale based on usage. Maybe .10/GB for up to the first 5TB, then .09/GB for the next 5TB, then .08/GB, etc. I love free incoming... BUT .20/GB scares the hell out of me. I'm just so used to getting bandwidth "bundled" within the price of my VPS.

I guess I just need to get accustomed to the "cloud" concept and move on from my "vps" way of thinking.

*** ONE MORE THING

I preferred the old name (vpshive) and website. I understand the reason for the change... BUT I REALLY LIKED THE FAT LITTLE BEES!!!

Not to beat a dead horse here, but I wanted to mention that there are all new bandwidth prices on the site. We have dropped the outgoing rate from 20 cents to 15 and added incoming at 8. We have cut the cost of the blocks almost in half.

Check them out.
