Any Clouds over Australia?

We need some clouds down here.

But in terms of hosting, are there any cloud services which have servers closer in proximity to Australia than the US? Ping to the US is ~320ms, and I wouldn't mind something a lot lower for a couple of clients I have with special needs.

Any suggestions of services to try would be muchly appreciated!

The AU hosting market is really small compared to the US, it is not super expensive to have a cloud hosting setup by any existing hosting company but they take the risk on whether the customers will take interest to such a thing.

Right now lots of Australian businesses still host all their IT services in house rather than in a datacenter. So cloud hosting is still quite a risk.

Check out www.webhostingtalk.com.au

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, just had a look.. their pricing seems unusual.. is it normal to charge a monthly fee for MS software licences?
http://cloudcentral.com.au/cloud/servers/pricing

Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 - $30 per month
SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition - $400 per month

That makes it very expensive, plus inbound and outbound traffic cost almost the same, which also seems odd.

The $30/calendar month is the standard Microsoft licensing. Terremark vCloud and ElasticHosts both also have the same licensing terms. EC2, GoGrid and Rackspace Cloud were able to secure special licensing that is bundled into the hourly fee.

Hm. Cartika's current base pricing for managed Win cloud with HSphere:
http://www.cartikacloud.com/managed-...erver-pricing/
That includes a whole raft of things. 1000GB traffic/month, wow.

CloudCentral just breaks it down but, as usual, Aussie traffic is the killer, at $1.50/GB. To get the same $250/mth Cartika offering would be about $300 *without traffic*. As a client, $1.50/GB will add a lot to that monthly bill, which comes free with US hosts.

Such a shame. The government here should do something about our high traffic costs, it hurts users and business. We have one of the highest costs of internet access in the world. A friend from Taiwan was shocked at how expensive it is here.

Example, I pay AU$70/mth to my ISP for 30/70GB (peak/offpeak). In Hong Kong the equivalent is AU$15/mth! Unlimited prepaid internet in China for around AU$10 month, same in Indonesia.... and we pay $70 or more!

Sorry, it's just embarrassing to be an Aussie sometimes...

Change to TPG: 90/90 (Peak/OffPeak GB) 180 for au$49.95 per month alot better then your plan

There is a company that is running Applogic over that way.

http://fluccs.com.au/

is their website. I recently met him awhile back. I'd give him a call and see what they can do. I want to say they are out of Sydney. (don't quote me on that)

Thanks,
