Adding icons and links to cpanel

I've reseller hosting with midphase and I asked support could I add links with my own icons to cpanel (for marketing to my clients) via SSH and the response was: "...I apologize for this inconvenience but there is no way, to my knowledge, to add custom icons to your cpanel."

I'm hoping that this person isn't aware that it can be done.

I can log into my server via SSH and I did a "dir" and saw .whmcpnel & .cpanel among other things.

but doing a: /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/MY THEME NAME/branding/index.html

or doing a: /cpanel

Gives me a "-jailshell: no such file or directory...

If I'm really unable to do this under midphase I'm happy I found out now before I got my site online. I will have to move on to a reseller that will allow me more cpanel customizing options.

Am I doing the command incorrectly or is it not possible "like midphase support stated"?

Thanks,
Will

Technically, it is possible as long as you have reseller access (or greater). Matt of our Integration Team wrote an article about how to do this. If you only have reseller access (not root), then be sure to follow the "per-reseller" instructions. His article is available at:

I checked out the instructions posted by Matt and they are the similar to what I already have which seems to list "server commands" which I don't seem to have access to because when I log into my site/cpanel via ssh I'm at "MyLogIn@Mydomain.com" and I have no ability to change or enter a directory but I can see the directories using the "dir" command. and none of the commands listed in the "Adding icons and groups" doc.

I'm going to keep emailing my provider and maybe a light bulb will go off in someones head or I will switch to a provider that is clear about whether this can be done under a reseller account. ...because really need to be able to add groups and Icons to my clients cpanel. Being able to replace or remove icons is not enough.

Regards,
Will

I was hoping it was something I was doing wrong.

I don't understand:

Quote:
The system works from dynamicui files that can be added in a variety of locations:

* Per-server — /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/$theme/dynamicui/dynamicui_$var.conf
o In the example above, you will need to replace the following variables with their actual value:
+ $theme — The theme for which you are making the modification. In most cases, this value should be x3.
+ $var.conf — the name of the dynamic UI file, this should always be prefixed with dynamicui_

* Per-reseller — $resellerhomedir/cpanelbranding/$theme/dynamicui.conf
o In the example above, you will need to replace the following variables with their actual value:
+ $resellerhomedir — The reseller's home directory corresponding to the reseller's interface you wish to modify.
+ $theme — The theme for which you are making the modification. In most cases, this value should be x3.
I understand "replacing the variables with their actual value" (I think).

Since I'm already in my resellerhomedir; I'm entering:
"cpanelbranding/x3/TortoiseHareMedia" in which there is no dynamicui.conf file here or in cpanelbranding/x3.

:-(

Regards,
Will

...well I've received a definitive answer from Midphase suppot; they do not have the cpanel set up to allow their resellers to modify icons or boxes. You can change existing icons but not add your own links.
