Making a Game Server hosting Server
Hello!
well, im running a GSP company, and my servers currently have Q9550 + 8gb ddr2 ram
I need to buy a NEW one server that will run CentOS. But i want to buy something more powerfull that a simple C2Q server.
I was thinking maybe in a dual quadcores Xeon server.
I have a 100mbits dedicated bandwith. and i want to be able to run the max CS and CSS servers possible.
So, could you help me with some Xeons CPUs? which ones are better for Dual Cpus config?
if possible, i would like that the price be 300U$S or less for each CPu.
thanks in advance!

Where are you looking for this server to be located ? The new x3450+ would be a great choice.

2400$ a month? is not it way too much money to spend? if you switch your location you can get very cheap deals, and can make upto 2000$ a month, there are many providers in usa who can provide you cheapest servers, and which hosting panel you use to manage your game servers?

I assume he means one time? Per month is really crazy!
If you have a budget available, choose the 2x E5520 series, good servers, certainly in dual cpu setup Also get enough memory.

I'm not sure if you mean 5220 or 5520. Personally I'd recommend getting 5520's.

Well, i have been researching and HERE, in my country, these are the options that i can get:
Option 1:
Dual E5220 Quad Core CPU
Intel S5500bc motherboard + 12gb 1066mhz ram ECC + 2x 500gb samsung Sata2 7.2k HDs + 2U Rackeable Case
Total: About 2300 / 2400 dollars
Option 2:
Single W3520 Nehalem Xeon
MSI MicroATX X58 MotherBoard + 12gb ram DDR3 1333 non ECC + 2x500gb samsung 7.2k HDs + 2U Rackeable Case + Low profile VGA
Total: About 1500 dollars
To take in account:
- The Server will run in a 100mbits Dedicated bandwith Port
- The servers will be HLDS and SRCDS mostly
- The OS will be CentOS
Remember, im only talking about THE HARDWARE, im colocating my servers.

Dual Intel Xeon E5520 Nehalem Quad Core
Ram: 12GB
2X 1TB Seagate SATA Drive (7200RPM)
Raid 1 or 0
5 Static Ips
6TB Monthly Bandwidth Allocation
100 Mbps uplink port speed
CentOS x86_64
For something like this build you should be paying around the 400 dollars a month range. Anything above 450 and I would say look else where

Don't forget to have a look at the newer E5620 CPU.
I was looking at Dell systems with Dual E5520, but got the upgrade for free.
