Inhouse PBX

A little to new to all this, is the following correct?

* Purchase Incoming DID's from a CLEC like les.net, most DID's allow for unlimited min but a standard rate is .002/min

* Purchase extra channels for each did if desired.

* Purchase Termination service for $0.02 per minute.

* Configure Asterisk to be a PBX for the DID's

* Use Softphones for computers, IP phones for desks, ATA/FXS adapters for legacy phones.

Am I correct here?

Theres a lot of online PBX solutions.

You can also setup an Asterisk PBX, or install TrixBox Linux which will be a starter kit to software PBX.

Seems fairly accurate. If your selling this to customers, a bunch of licensing and taxes would also apply.

It is possible to get a SIP trunk from a SIP provider which you can configure on your PBX (username/password/SIPserverIP and you're done). That way you only need a SIP provider which supplies you with your DID's. Many out there don't even require you to purchase extra channels (as most of them want you to call as much as possible) but the maximum number of channels is limited by the local network capacity (and server hardware).

Depending on the SIP provider and network capacity the quality of the calls may be impacted. The cheapest deals are not always the best deals.

You can also connect the legacy fax machines using those ATA's.

Last but not least, do make sure your PBX is secure (use firewalls, strong passwords and VPN's where possible) as it can otherwise result in some impressive bills if someone ever hacks it.

Yeah he's right... many of the desk IP phones are easy to hack and some don't even have a password to set.
