Need hosting that updates visitor information regularly.

Hello,

I am looking for something specific from a new hosting provider but I don't see the information advertised when looking at hosting companies.

I want my hosting provider to have the facility to provide me with an (almost) real-time list of connections to my site.

So for example if you connect to a specific page on my future domain name at 15:30 from a certain IP I want to see that information (the page you have connected to, your IP, and the time) in real-time or near enough rather than waiting for the logs to revolve every 24 hours. My current provider only updates the logs every 24 hours which is irritating.

Does anyone know of some providers that update connection information rapidly?

Thanks so much!

If you want better real-time website analytics software, then you may have to get them from another company. As the majority of hosts just use the statistics software included with the control panel i.e awstats and webalizer for cPanel.

Try Google http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=...018966238d0fb3

"Latest Visitors" in cPanel

I wonder if the "Latest Visitors" in cPanel will give you some or all of the information you are looking for? It says that it shows the latest 300 visitors, but I suspect that may be the latest 300 hits. Possibly your provider can configure it to give you the quantity of visitors you need data on. GL

The Latest Visitors section in cPanel can probably give you all of the information you need. Otherwise, as mentioned above, you'd need to get some sort of real-time analytic software.

Yeah, most shared hosting providers only provide the logs every 24 hours (i.e: awstats and webalizer).
I think you will need a real-time website statistic/analytic software/services from the 3rd party company out there - you can google it.

I sure simple but feature powered CraftySyntax could help you with what you want. It is not stats software though but live chat. It has a tracking feature which could show you not only ip from where connection made but also referring site and other useful information. Of course everything is realtime with this software.
But easiest way to get what you want will be just apache status page. This could be realized by simple php script.

You can install something like Piwik analytics (piwik.org) which will show you hits but I'm not sure it's as granular as you are after.

You could certainly craft a simple script to grab that information and write it out to a database and just include it in the footer of every page - it wouldn't be very tough to craft as it's a very simple idea.

Alternatively you could get something like LiveZilla and just use the tracking code where you could watch connections as they happen.

@ emily_girl it is your site, you are responsible for it, tracking on it becomes your liablity not the hosts. Most will do best effort and guide you like above posts have. But i doubt any shared host will hand hold you they can guide you only. But that again if you can go to your future domain why not just go one more step and login to cpanel and look at the stats as mentioned above realtime ? There are however really nice scripts out there that give you nice stats real time.

I would suggest hiring some coder to built a custom script for your needs if you are not able to find such scripts.

Bunny is right for the most part - the host doesn't have any responsibility to offer you any sort of tracking and personally I'd be happy that they offered tracking that updated daily.

While it is the norm for most cPanel hosts as it comes packaged there are some providers that have it disabled.

Google analytics is probably the easiest to set up. It has great reporting too, as well as integration with Adwords.

Unless they've changed it ... it only updates about once per day as well.

I looked at Mint for a bit ... I asked for a trial and they basically told me no and then I installed Piwik and I've been happy ever since
