Are there clients here using Applogic Virtual Data center solution from Applogic 3Tera.com ? If yes, any feedback on how the solution work on softlayer, theplanet servers or any DC ? and if it is stable ?

I've never been involved in hosting it, however I used it with "The Grid Layer" a few years ago.
I never had a problem with it, it seemed pretty stable back then, and I can only imagine its gotten better over time.

it's just been sold to CA.com for $100m - future will tell where they will take it.

wow, that is huge news. Not sure how I missed that announcement !
I always saw applogic as a little ahead of its time as far as cloud/grid computing goes. Though, I think with the ongoing evolution of open source file systems, more and more solutions similar to this will be surfacing as time goes on. Moving storage off of SANs and over to distributed and replicated local storage nodes on commodity type of hardware will be the future. Very curious to see where computerassociates take this product.

I had a demo with them, and 3tera is impressive. However it does have it's drawbacks that I'm still debating over, as I don't like the idea having to make the exact same servers in a setup. If you need more Ram/CPU in the cloud, you have to add more disk space. If you need more disk space in the cloud, you have to add more Ram/CPU regardless. This means you will have an excess some some sort of resource. Also when you want to upgrade the servers, you have to upgrade ALL the server in the cloud since they have to be homogeneous.
I think I would prefer to have a central storage, and then servers with cpu/ram to do the feeding. With 3tera you have to have a server do it all, HD i/o, Ram, CPU, etc.
Kind of a torn situation since 3tera does have it's benefits, but also can be a very costly solution as your cloud grows and when it comes time to upgrade the servers in a couple years.

I guess one of the benefits of 3tera is that you can probably expect greater hd i/o performance since there is 1-2 Sans getting hammered by 100 VM's. But the grid will be pretty expensive to maintain and best to have small grids just for future upgrading purposes.
I hope someone can spread some more light on 3tera, their experiences and what not. There has been a lot of talk about 3tera/grid as opposed to central storage like Sans which is common among clouds now-a-days.
