Has anyone ever tried to install WordPress MU onto an existing site on the root for subdomain usage?

I asked WP forums but not much activity over there and the only other support forum requires paid membership... really anoying..

I have an existing site with index.php on my root but i wanna ads WPMU and configure with subdomains... i played with the install script to bypass a couple errors... but stil no luck...
