Hello forumers =)
I am interested in buying a new server for my website / business, but i have no clue where to start, so your help is desperately needed, and appreciated
My website is mostly done in Java, with some php on the side.
I expect it to have minimum of 5000 users, it will stream some video, but mostly text.
So what would be a good type of server (rack/tower/blade?)
And how do i distinguish between whether a server supports java or not?
Thanks! =)

Is it java as in server-side java or java as in applets (client side)?

Well, if you are looking for a dedicated solution, you can place whatever software you like on it, including java so that won't be an issue. You'll need to fine a provider that will suite your needs, e.g. location, space, transfer & price.
5000 Users, are they concurrent, or monthly.. The information you've given is too vague to suggest exactly what you need. How much space do you intend on using? Monthly transfer? I'm assuming you'll need a lot of both if you're storing and streaming video.

@MikeDVB: its server sided
@TheSimpleHost-Nathan
So does that mean, any web server would be able to handle java? i just need to have the right software right?
5000 users online at the same time, or more.
Monthly transfer im assuming more than 2000GB
Storage im getting 1TB would be good to start off
I was thinking of buying my own server instead of dedicated server, but if you have good recommendations on dedicated servers, i will certainly consider it.

5,000 users online at the same time you'd be looking at a very high end server or a small cluster of serves especially with server-side Java.
I would contact SoftLayer and discuss it with them and see what they suggest.
