I'm looking to buy a VPS from Directspace.net.
Please give my some opinions/ reviews about Directspace.net.
(uptime, network speed, stability, overselling)

Thank you.

I've had servers with these Guys for about 8 months now.

Things were a bit rocky at first but they've definitely improved.

They don't oversell and the bandwidth is quite good, even though they are Cogent only.

I'm going to continue rolling out servers with them, I suggest you contact sales. Edward and Fran will look after you.

Thanks for the reply. I already talked with Fran and got my custom quote. Just wanted to make sure that I'm not taking any risks by moving to Directspace.

Others, please share your experience with me

"Fran is the Man" - he personally looks after us and does a lot of customizations.

Good luck, if you choose them I really hope you enjoy the place as much as I do.

Fran responded for my ticket almost instantly. And hope their support is also fast like that.

Did you have any major downtime with them?
Is there network stable?

If their uptime is satisfactory I would definitely choose them

I have got a $10 vps with them, it is the kind of vps that just worked, never opened any support ticket with them.
I do not monitor my VPS 24/7, can not tell if they got the perfect uptime, but I have not noticed any problem myself.

The only major down time was late last year when a power station was on fire, it was on the news, or Cogent doing maintenance.

Other than that it's been fairly smooth.

I don't need a PERFECT uptime, as long as there are no major downtimes that exceeds an hour, it's fine for me

Looking forward to buy the server within 2 days

Here is a report from Pingdom:

Keep in mind, the downtime includes when we restart the server and perform maintenance etc.

People be fair with him. While both Directspace guys are nice, their network kinda sux. Yes it sux! There's a lof of talking about improvements last few years (YEARS!!!), every few months new hope, promises... and as it seems they might finally lost etiquette of single homed DC, but as long I don't see this improvement with my own vps... it's same old mediocre Directspace.

My pingdom reports from last 3 months:

Pingdom Monthly Report 2010-01-01 - 2010-01-31‏
Uptime 97.69%
Downtime 17h 10m 04s
Outages 15
Response time 2012 ms

Pingdom Monthly Report 2009-12-01 - 2009-12-31‏
Uptime 99.33%
Downtime 5h 00m 07s
Outages 25
Response time 2396 ms

Pingdom Monthly Report 2009-11-01 - 2009-11-30
Uptime 99.80%
Downtime 1h 25m 00s
Outages 10
Response time 1466 ms‏

Thanks for the reply. Im not much of an expert in web hosting stuff. Please describe little more in detail so that I get the correct idea.

I was going to order from Directspace as they gave me the exact specs needed and it was within my budget. No other hosting company gave me a better price.

For me, if I'm getting a 10 mbit/s out from the server, its fine. And also 98% uptime is also ok.

So please tell me the pros and cons of choosing Directspace for my requirement.

VPS specs -
*Processor - Equal Share
*RAM - 1024MB
*Bandwidth - 500GB
*4 IP addresses
*Virtuozzo, Xen or OpenVZ
*WHM/Cpanel
*Disk Space - 40GB
*Unmanaged

Budget $ 25

Sorry for additional confusion.

If stability isn't your primary need you will be most likely happy with them. They offer incredible a lot of resources for this money and you will actually get them. Servers doesn't seems oversold and I never had a issue with their hardware.
Both guys which operate this show are user friendly. My only objection here is against their single homed congentco network and their approach to this issue. I don't want permanent promises, announcements, delays, etc, etc.. but results. But they never come.

If you do little research with old posts, you might notice how they claim whole time that they have multihomed network which was whole time false pretending. Their (on main site) still advertised multihomed network with AT&T, level 3, sprint, etc... never really worked and it was always one and only congentco. Single homed network.
Two months or so ago they finally changed this statement and admitted that they have single homed network. And weeks later we got announcement about network improvements, new transit providers (hurricane electric, etc..) but till this date my IP still show one and only congentco routing from any location disregarding the fact that as they stated in their announcement those new transit providers should be included to their network already.

That's main reason why I am not that optimisitic as regular two directpace fans on WHT and why I prefer results not only kind words and promises.
