Exclamation What the hell my hosting company sold me !?!?!?!?

    hello people!

well, i have a webpage and as i have ClientExec installed, i thought that it would be important to buy an SSL certificate, so I bought one from my hosting company (dattatec.com). They installed my certificate but all that i get when i enter to my page via HTTPS:// is a warning of firefox.

this is exactly what i get: https://www.playfrag.com/clientes

i contacted the support service and they said me that the certificates were AUTO-Firmed by the site, so its normal.

so, my question is: is there any way to avoid that warning of the browser, or i will have to say them to return my money?

    thankyou very much in advance!

You can't avoid the error as it is not a real SSL from a provider like GeoTrust or RapidSSL. It was a self issued SSL.

To avoid that warning, you require a real certificate. The one you are using is a self signed one.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.
This is normal activity for a self signed certificate.

If you paid for it, ask for them to fix.

ok, in the information page of the SSL certificate that they sell it doesnt says that its a sefl signed SSL.

so, i will say them to return my money.

Now, which CHEAP REAL SSL certificate do you recommend me?

Look into RapidSSL but go with a reseller to get a RapidSSL even cheaper but a SSL will require a dedicated IP.

We have used ************** in the past, and had no problems. Namecheap also offers cheap SSL.

    Good luck!

ok, thank you very much but i have a couple of questions:

    1) if a buy a 10.95 dollars/yr certificate from namecheap`, the certificate will fully work, or its also auto-signed like the one i have now?

    2) as my hosting is in argentina, having an SSL provided from another country's company, will make my website go slower?

    tankyou!

    1) It'll fully work after they install it

    2) It won't affect the loading speed at all.
