VPS for Vbulletin site

I am planning to open a Vbulletin powered forum and need to find a good host. I was thinking of starting on a shared host and as membership grew switching to a VPS. My budget is fairly tight but could probably do around the 50 dollar range. Location is Ottawa Canada. Any suggestions would be great. Also Cpanel would be needed as well.

Keep your outgoings down to a minimum at first and go for shared hosting. But just ensure whoever you go with is able to offer you the progression to VPS and dedicated in the future.

I think Jaguar have a good rep, but I'm not much up on shared hosts these days.
The only one I've had any dealings with, because I put a client with them, was Innohosting. I've liased with them for my client for the last month or so and I've been very impressed.
So I'd add them to your list for starters!

Can you specify, in more detail, what you need such as; OS, ram, hard drive and bandwidth?

i was thinking if traffic picked up probably 1g of ram, 20g of disk space, and 200g of bandwidth. Mind you most of my experience so far has been with shared hosting. Whatever a moderately trafficked site running Vbullitetin would need.

If it's a start-up forum, any low to mid-end VPS would do just fine depending if you're going to end up installing any additional modules or addons to your vb. However, shared hosting may be sufficient enough to run a start up forum unless you're expecting exponential growth soon then a VPS may be a better solution in that case.

Do you guys think it is important to start out with a shared hosting provider that has good vps and dedicated solutions as well so that when you need to upgrade hosting it is a quick and easy process? or does it matter...
