BEWARE editdns.net

They were running a free + paid service and all of a sudden they deleted my free account breaking all my sites and email. They didn't even send out a warning email....

This is basically <<removed>> all nonpaid customers...

I highly doubt they make any promises or guarantees to free clients.

That's what you get for using a free service. ZoneEdit and EasyDNS have been reliable for me.

The old addage, you get what you pay for. Though for image sake and possible sell some paid versions, they should of at least emailed you.

They have been sending out updates since September. But I guess that their service wasn't worth anything to you.

I've used them for years and they've been great. Yes, I am a subscriber too as $5/month for about 70 domains is a bargain.

If you've migrated to their free service then you should be fine. From their September 23rd email:

- In the next week, there will be a way to migrate your domain over to http://free.editdns.net, we recommend you do it as soon as possible to prevent any downtime.

- You must keep your subscription active in order to continue to use http://www.editdns.net, once your subscription runs out, your domains will be disabled, but can be migrated to http://free.editdns.net.

- http://free.editdns.net has two nameservers, one in Dallas, one in NJ. You.re allowed to have up to 5 domains for DNS hosting.

- URL Forwarding, e-mail forwarding, etc will be going away for all free accounts and you must be an active subscriber to continue to use them.

- Any new domains will not be able to use these services effective today; any remaining domains still using these services will be able to use them until Jan 1st.

- http://www.editdns.net subscribers will be getting better hardware, SLA guarantees and more.

- We recommend you use http://www.editdns.net and pay for a subscription, if your domain has any importance to you.

Thanks for those who reported we did contact our customers, 5 months ago in fact ;-)

We also posted it on our website and our forums:

http://forums.editdns.net/showthread.php?t=1530

We also contacted our customers every few weeks reminding them of what they needed to do to migrate.

So much for being **slapped. Always best to hear both sides of the story.

I guess I was just lucky, I had not migrated to the free platform, but my dns zones were still active on their name servers. Regardless Ive just upgraded to a lifetime membership, they've given great service to date

Seems like this is gonna change:

EveryDNS has been acquired by Dyn, Inc!

No email from David Ulevitch to tell all users that they have been sold... I just noticed that on their website now, I knew something has happening because the Webhop service doesn't work anymore, and support doesn't reply.
So I am moving all of my DNS records out before the big rush, or a failed migration! I bet one day some people will wake up with no more DNS services:
Domains using EveryDNS: 417614 !
Records in EveryDNS: 1418658 !!

There's always two sides of every story.. I'm sure EveryDNS will be in contact.
