Credit Card Bankruptcy with Amazon EC2?

Hello Web Hosting Talk,

I am trying to create a VPS service using Amazon EC2, but I was afraid of the service charge exceeding my credit card limit ($1500), because if I actually start a business with Amazon EC2, I believe the service charge will easily exceed my credit card limit.

Is there anyway to avoid this?
(Ex. Creating a new credit card with higher credit card limit.)
Or is there another payment method besides credit card?

Thank you in advance everyone in Web Hosting Talk

Just pay enough money to your credit card in advance.

If the service charge will exceed your limit, you have a few options:
1. Like tim said, simply pay enough mony to your credit card in advance.
2. Get a new credit card with higher limits, as you said.

Do you know about paypal? If I understand correctly, your trying to get payments sent to you. Paypal is a great way to send and receive money online. Check them out at paypal.com

You can also try contacting your Credit Card company and see if they are willing to raise the limits on your card.
A debt card would pretty much avoid this problem altogether assuming you have sufficient funds in your bank account.

It doesn't look like AWS supports PayPal, at least I don't see this as a payment option in the AWS console. I'm not sure what Amazon will do if your card fails authorization ... I don't think they would shut down your server immediately since this could cause a lot of problems, especially in cases where CC companies routinely deny/flag valid purchases thinking they may be fraudulent.

In any case, you should be able to monitor your purchase activity using the Account Activity section in AWS console. At least this way you would know if you are getting close to your limit. In any case, I would suggest you get your credit limit raised if possible to avoid any issues.

What kind of service are your providing? Amazon EC2 service is not cheap and is for users who need to scale up quickly when the need arises for short periods, and switch off when not needs.

It also suitable for short term immediate needs that can't wait, or that work out cheaper than a month's payment for a VPS.

If your customers are prepaying for their service it shouldn't be a problem. Whatever you are doing probably requires advanced automated provisioning and billing tools if you are not certain about your customers.
