rndc: connect failed
I'm getting this error when adding an A entry for a hostname
Code:Error reloading bind on server4: rndc: connect failed: 127.0.0.1#953: connection refused

First check your
tail -f /var/log/messages
But I am guessing it's a permissions problem.
Try
chmod 755 /var/run/named
chmod 750 /var/named
and then starting again.

It could be a permissions issue or an error in your named.conf file. A look at the error logs can give a clear picture.

Potentially sounds like a configuration issue to me - though if that's the case it's odd that problems are intermittent, but without further information we are unable to help.
What OS are you running?
What version of named/bind9 are you running?
Are you running a single master? Or master & slave DNS servers?
What do the log files say regarding named - any obvious errors?
In the past i've noticed intermittent problems if for example the master server was setup correctly, but a slave was not.Last edited by BTCentral - Ben; 12-22-2009 at 08:37 AM.

Hello,
It seems to be some problem with the bind configuration. Can you please check your /var/log/messages and paste the error here so that you will get the solution on this issue.

I changed the permissions settings and Adding the A entry for the host name worked with no errors this time. I'll post all the info if i find another issue.
Thanks for the help.
