Database Connection Failed -- Database missing, did I just get hacked?
Hey guys,
Today I noticed that my MSSQL database wasn't working, I assumed that it was an error with the SQL Database since our host had some problems with the SQL servers today.
I just checked into the server and noticed my database is completely gone.
Aside from doing a full back up of 3 of the other 5 sites hosted on the server, we didn't touch the site or the DB that's missing.
So I have a few serious questions.
1) WTF happened to my database?
2) Can a full back up of other sites affect the MSSQL server?
3? WTF can I do about it?
If this database is gone we've lost 3 weeks worth of orders and updates.
(Before anyone says 'shoulda backed up earlier!'.. well we were doing that when it happened).Last edited by LockerroomMarketing; 11-25-2009 at 12:51 AM.

If you lost the database while you were backing up I'd say there's a strong chance that your backup procedure caused the data loss. You should closely examine how the backup was taken as a good starting point.

Did you check with the host to see if they might make backups of your content as well? If you don't have a current backup, might be worth a shot to ask them.

Well here's the tricky situation. Our host doesn't have a copy of our database.
Their only record of our database is a deletion on Sept 25th which I restored shortly there after. It shows no deletion yesterday, and no access from any location other than my office/home.
It's quite odd that their backups don't contain the database, absolutely bizarre.

That really sucks that they don't have backups for your databases. Is that normal for them not to back those up, because the static content is usually easier to get an old backup than the SQL data being gone
