DNS Server Software for vista?

I am running a webserver from home and I need software for vista to handle domain names.

Right now I am using Simple DNS Plus, but it is FAR to expensive. $379 will almost buy a copy of server 2008 which I would rather use over vista.

Any recommendations?

You can use some free web service that offers DNS hosting for you like namecheap freedns or editdns free edition, unless you are intent on running your own nameservers, in which case it would be a good idea to set up two cheap virtual private servers with cPanel DNS only in two different locations.

I definitely want to run my own name servers, but I don't want to rely on something off site. So do you know any good software alternatives to Simple DNS Plus?

Running your own DNS on your home PC is far worst compared to using a reliable free DNS provider like NameCheap.

Vista is not a server O/S, it is a desktop O/S like XP. If you allow more than 5 connections on basic, 10 for the others you are breaking your EULA. These connections are limited to "File Services, Print Services, Internet Information Services and Internet Connection Sharing and Telephony Services" (see http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal...s/default.aspx to access any license)

Why on earth do you want to run one of the least liked O/S's at home as a web server? I'll admit I'm not a big Microsoft fan but even XP would be better (though it has the same restrictions). At least get Server 2008.
