Page Title - Is it just me or...

I checked it on browsers FF, IE8, Chrome, Opera and on different computers.

    A link like http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...cx#postabcxzyc

    Title shows as:

View Single Post ID: 6504964 - Web Hosting Talk

Whether I click on the link or open it in a new TAB or windows, title is shown like that.

    Any one else noticed that?

It shows like that for me too. I just noticed it this morning too, but I wonder if it's been there a while and I'm not just observant.
If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.

It has been there for more than 2 days, I didn't had time to report earlier.

QA is an interesting job, finding other people's fault is indeed fun.

Just something someone changed that's gotta get changed back. Well, not changed back completely the way it was, just changed back better.

Now single posts will begin with the postid followed by the thread title.

I finally noticed it today, but I was not sure if it was new or not.

Agreed and I approve the change as long as it doesn't screw something else up.

Yea, I saw that change a few days ago but failed to say anything about it. I figured it was something new WHT was trying to do but guess I was wrong.

Or now When replying to a thread, however, it still sticks your reply's post ID in the front of the title, even though you're still on thread view, not single post. Perhaps filter on showpost.php (vs showthread.php) rather than ?p= in the URL (not sure if that's what you're doing at all though, so...)

What we're trying to do is not have different URLs display duplicate titles.

Just trying to balance that with usability.

If you view the thread, it's just the thread title.

When you reply to a thread, vB sends you back to the post you just made. So it is a single post view.

Single post view just shows the post by itself, not the rest of the thread:

    Semantics.
Apparently we're talking about the same thing then.
As I said, we're trying to get away from having the same thread title for different URLs.

Ah ok I wondered why it was doing that... I would of probably put thread title - post 1 - Web Hosting Talk or something like that.

I really dislike the new page title format. It makes it difficult to know which page is which, when you are using Firefox with 6 or 7 tabs open.

We're changing that (hopefully today) so that posts will be the thread title followed by the post id.

    Wait!

    6 or 7 tabs?

    I fell I'm slacking if I get below 50.

What exactly is the purpose of the post id to be in the <title> tag anyway?

No, it's still just as bad for those of us using tabs. It says "Page Title - <Thread Title> - <Thread Number/ID>".

    No it doesn't.

The thread title here is "Page Title - Is it just me or..."

    So it has <Thread Title> - <postid number>

Is there a point to showing the postid in the title for SHOWTHREAD template?

On SHOWPOST I guess I could see a small point of showing it, but I can't think of any reason on Showthread?

    "Semantics", or so I'm told.

As I said, we're trying to get away from having the same thread title for different URLs.
If the data is only being pulled from the URL, and vB uses a query like SELECT * FROM posts WHERE thread_id=(SELECT id FROM threads WHERE post_id=<?p=FromURL>) so that the thread_id is never actually selected, it might not be possible to show the thread_id in that case. Seems like poor planning on vB designers part, though not unexpected considering where vB 4 seems headed.

If you are going to do that then should at least remove 'Page Title' from the navbar "Web Hosting Talk : Other Forums : Forum Announcements, Feedback, and Questions : Page Title - Is it just me or... : Reply to Thread " as we get to see more of the Page Title name then.

Edit: Actually, I think it already is.
