Simple question: Whats the cheapest provider you have seen these days?

I would consider interserver.net with atoms for under 40$

Are you factoring value into the equation? Obviously you could probably take some pentiums off someone's hands for free, but they wouldn't necessarily be very useful.

Value doesn't matter. I won't be using them for much.

After all I read here about Steven and Rack911, I am quite sure that he knows what he needs and what he is talking about.

Cheapest servers that I have ever used are from OVH.
They have their Kimsufi servers from £19.99/pm
    http://www.kimsufi.co.uk/

I have used them in the past and are ok but not reccomended for anything but a personal/low importance site. I am currently using mine for backups only.

They also have RPS servers from £9.99 but am not sure if you would class them as a proper dedicated server as it used a NAS drive.

One very important thing to remember is that you get what you pay for so if you want a good reliable server/network it will not be cheap.

I think the cheapest is from ServerPronto $32.95 per month. Could be slightly lower if you can find coupons.

Wholesale Internet is having a sale on WHT, with servers starting from $25. You might be interested in checking them out.

Yep, Wholesale Internet is the cheapest around as of late. It's actually a pretty good deal if you're looking for a test server or a budget backup server. I personally wouldn't host anything mission critical there, but I do host a Linux test server and find the network to be well performing.

I'm not sure if Steven will need any server management, I will assume so based on his WHT post history, in which case someone like PSM or WebbyCart are extremely affordable and would compliment a budget server. Just kidding Steven! We all know you're one of the better admin's lurking these forums. =)

I've been around long enough to have used most providers good and bad. I know very well that you get what you pay for.

$29.95 CoreNetworks ... very good support, bandwidth is there, server quality is good.

Cheaper than this... I've seen PIII from time to time at Serveraday.com for around $25.

I don't care what anybody says, XEN, Vmware, Kvm does not function as a true server, for my needs (they are low level kernel)

    <<snipped>>

More importantly: did you get the answer you were looking for? It seems $30/month is about the absolute minimum.
