    Hopefully it won't be nasa who takes that step, but rather private industry. NASA has had a long, long time to do something interesting with human space travel -- going back to the moon seems anti-climactic to say the least.

    When they mean water, what do they mean? Like a river, or just vapor?

    But good news indeed. I see the moon as being colonized in the later part of this century.

    Perhaps he believes that the same process that led to water showing up on the moon could be used to "produce" water in arid and remote deserts.

    It would have to be ice, at least until the probe's impact vaporizes some it it. Liquid water cannot exist for long in a vacuum. If it doesn't freeze, it evaporates.
